Festival Fashion: A Crash Course

With Coachella kicking off this week it officially starts the summer 2013 music festival season.

Festival fashion presents an interesting challenge. While there are definite trends that are reminiscent of Woodstock, there are also influences from the mod trend, punk and grunge.

It's also interesting because while wanting to look cute, the weather has to come into consideration. While the sun maybe be shining one minute it can quickly turn to a passing thunderstorm that can make the area into a mud slide. And vice versa, it can just as easily become hot and muggy and just gross.

So how does a fashionista dress for her favorite music festival?

Living a Stylish Life

What we surround ourselves with can have a huge impact on our entire lives. Everything from the clothes we wear to the sheets we sleep on has some sort of impact on who we are. That's why I think it is so important to extend your style past your closet.

One of my favorite ways to extend my style is with office supplies. I know, office supplies? Well ask anyone that knows me & they will tell you about my awkward obsession with office supplies. I'm not just talking about regular #2 pencils or plain beige folders though. Oh no.

I love finding the cutest and brightest office supplies out there. My theory is if you have to do boring tasks like filing or accounting you might as well have something pretty to look at. And by simply changing your beige folders for something with a bold pattern in bright colors, you can totally brighten up your office environment.

I know that with my business I skip right over the plain office supplies & even though it may cost a few extra bucks, to me it's worth it because it helps create a better work environment & keeps me being productive.

Now that we have the office covered & you probably think that I'm borderline crazy, lets move onto the rest of house.

One of the best things that you can do for yourself is to find some great throw pillows. These are usually pretty inexpensive and they are a great way to add new life to a room. Bored of your living room? Don't be frivolous and decide to re-carpet the whole room, instead save a ton of money by getting a couple new pillows.

One of the least stylish places in the home just happens to be my favorite, and that would the kitchen. My love for cooking usually means I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so I think that picking out your kitchen towels or cookware should be a well thought out decision.

If you are using them every single day, don't you want a nice set to use and look at? I think this is especially true for dishes. These are the one thing that you are guaranteed to use every single day. Whether its your cereal bowl or your coffee mug, make sure it's an expression of you.

Some other great ways to extend your style into your home is with placemats, lamps, knick knacks, area rugs, curtains etc.

Not only should your closet be an expression of you but so should your home. While a pillow or sauté pan may not be the key to ultimate self satisfaction, it can really change the environment you live in & give you that extra little boost you need to take on your day.

What is your favorite way to add style to your environment?

Stop Being Lazy & Make Your Own Food

The expression that goes "if you want something done right, then do it yourself" could not be more appropriate when it comes to food.

While I love eating out as much as the next person, I also really love making my own food & trying out new recipes.

Well recently I read a very interesting article that has me pretty much swearing off going out to eat, eating fast food or any prepared foods.

I know that may sound a little dramatic but you'll understand why after you read this.

Why I Love Short Suits

Short Suit Sets ( Say that 10x fast) are in my opinion the missing link in a woman's professional/ nice casual wardrobe arsenal.

Not only are they stylish but they offer a great alternative to the traditional skirt suit for women who work in a professional office environment. Short suits are also a great option for women to wear to a wedding or any other similar occasion, because let's be honest sometimes you just don't feel like wearing a dress.

The best part is there are so many different varieties of short suits that you can definitely find one that fits not only your style but also your budget.

Here are some of my favorites:

Pink Suit: ASOS // Bright Floral Suit: LuLu's
Blue Floral Suit: Banana Republic // Tan Suit: NY & Company

I really hope short suits become main stream because I think that they are just great. They are another easy option to have in your closet while being chic, classic and really fun to wear.

What are your thought on short suit sets?
